I’d heard about Man O’War Vineyards a few years ago when my friends had visited and wouldn’t stop raving about how beautiful it was, so, when Sasha and Ed contacted me to photograph their wedding at that exact place, I was pretty excited. Waiheke Island is a slice of New Zealand heaven, not far from Auckland. In fact, you’ve probably heard of it already as the little island of wineries, beaches and glorious landscapes. It was my second time photographing a wedding there in the space of 2 months and I was looking forward to returning to shoot at a different venue on the other side of the island.
After 40 minutes of driving down windy, dusty, corrugated roads, you come out of the dense greenery to find yourself looking over a gorgeous little bay with the cutest chapel you’ve ever seen opposite it. This is Man O’War. Cute, quaint and quintessentially NZ as it’s wrapped up in the sheep-tracked, green hillside.
Sasha and Ed’s wedding day fit into this landscape perfectly. With the setting, the styling (done by the fabulous Hannah from Nowadays) and the people involved, their wedding was a feast for the eyes and a party like only parties can be in this little paradise.
