Quite often I go back to New Zealand to photograph weddings. It’s an absolute blessing to be able to do this. Better yet, sometimes I get to shoot a wedding of an old high school friend. This was the case with Brett.
My memories of Brett from high school were of him being the mischief maker, the class clown or the one who was always creating some kind of hilarious mini-drama around him. So when their wedding day came about and he turned up with a black eye, I couldn’t help but laugh rather hysterically (don’t worry, everyone else was too).
Even though it was years since we’d hung out, Brett was still up to his tricks. This time, falling over at his bucks party only days before and getting a whopper of a black eye. Classic Brett. What I admired was that Gemma was so laid back about it. A lot of brides could have been rather furious at this. Not Gem. She laughed along with us and simply said, ‘it is what it is. What can we do about it?’. Great words spoken by an amazing bride.
Mudbrick Vineyard is a superb winery to hold a wedding and the team behind this celebration were nothing short of amazing. See full vendor credits below. Enjoy!
